"Don't Panic!"

I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and was shocked at how much I loved it. I mean I knew I would like it, but I had no idea I would like it this much! I'm sad I missed the chance to see it in theaters. I can't really describe it, but I can say that the film's clever wit and colorful imagination is reminiscent of Time Bandits combined with the social political comedic commentary not seen since the Monty Python films. I can see why this film was in development hell for years, but perhaps it was worth the wait.

# of Post Screening Phone Calls: 3 (if you count the mid screening call to popmuse to say, "this film is brilliant!")
# of minutes the "So long and thanks for all the fish" song stayed in my head: 20
# of creatures I thought of when pondering who is the smartest on the planet: 12
Favorite character: the depressed robot played by Alan Rickman.
# of times wish I saved my Jaws 3 - 3D glasses from 1983: 4

Xtine, I'm sure you already know this, but I feel like I need to mention for the others that the song "Don't Panic" by Coldplay, the one that is in the opening of Garden State, was based on the book "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"..."we live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, yeah we do"
Laura, damn you are smart. -x
Ok, if Xtine says it's good, I'm gettin it.
I thought it was very funny too, and that Rickman was EXACTLY what I imagined Marvin sounding like back when I read the book. Now if the Red Dwarf movie ever gets made I'll really be happy.

Depressing Fact of the Day: While Rickman provided the voice, it was Warwick Davis(of Willow and Ewok fame) who went unseen, shoved inside that clunky costume.
I thought HG2G was pretty good, also.
My partner thought it was alright, but we both agreed it was a worthy endeavor and the changes respectable.

I have to say though - my favourite aspect was Marvin and Slartibartfast.

The English humour was left intact, thankfully!

The romance sub-plot was unnecessary *blech*
